Katie Airey, a 36-year-old fitness instructor from the Lake District is besides being an instructor also a real fighter. Twelve years ago she was diagnosed with Lymphoma and underwent aggressive treatment to put her into remission . Earlier this year she also made the decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. She is putting herself through a 100 day challenge as an effort to get her back to optimal health and fitness.

We asked what Katie what the decision was that made her do it. “Having taken several months out to recover from surgery I really wanted to get back to being my old self. Because I’ve had my own struggles with my weight and health I feel that I can really emphathise with my clients and understand their struggles.” Could you tell us a bit more about the project? “Basically It’s a 100-day program where we focus on nutrition, exercise and a positive mindset as part of a small group to support one another. In the end the right mindset is the best motivator.”

So how do you incorporate the RD-545 in this project? “Each week we start with a weigh in for measurement. But some clients aren’t in the program for weight loss. They just wants to be healthier in general. One of the functions: ‘metabolic age’ for instance is good example. Just by quitting sugar and exercising more one of my clients metabolic age dropped significantly. Showing that info to your clients in real-time is where the scale proves its worth.”

What about your personal progress, did the RD-545 help you personally? “The scale really helps me to stay on track. I exercise a lot and stick to my diet. I can see that my muscle mass increased and that the fat is slowly disappearing. It’s absolutely great to do measure yourself. You are totally honest with yourself, the scale does not lie.”

After being 8 weeks out of the hospital, she is already running 5km under half an hour. We wish Katie all the best with her project and hope she determined and positive!
