The Tanita Medical Advisory Board (TMAB) was established in 2000 as part of our goal to remain at the forefront of advances in medical-related technology and health initiatives. It consists of a team of independent senior research scientists and obesity and nutrition experts from across the world who advise on the scientific development of BIA technology to ensure the highest accuracy is achieved. The Board is also tasked with ensuring that Tanita products, communications and information are ethically and scientifically accurate.

Professor Steven Heymsfield

Executive Director of Pennington Biomedical Research Centre, Baton Rouge USA Prof Steven Heymsfield is the George A. Bray, Jr. Chair in Nutrition at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, USA. He is a world leader in the field of human body composition, energy expenditure and metabolism with over 500 peer-reviewed publications and has received numerous international awards.

He previously served as Global Director of Scientific Affairs and Obesity at Merck and Co.,Inc. and as Deputy Director of the National Institute of Health,s New York Obesity Research Center at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.

Prof Heymsfield was President of the American Society of Clinical Nutrition and of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.


Professor Andrew Prentice

Director of the MRC International Nutrition Group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and MRC Keneba, The Gambia Prof Andrew Prentice is Director of the MRC International Nutrition Group at the LSHTM and in the Gambia where he directs the group,s field laboratory and heads a broad programme of research into diet and global health. He previously headed the MRC Energy Metabolism and Obesity Group in Cambridge, UK.

Prof Prentice,s research has used innovative technologies to interrogate the links between diet, weight regulation and disease and his work has been recognised by international awards and honours including the E.V.McCollum International Lectureship in Nutrition award 2010-11 from the American Society for Nutrition.


Professor Angelo Pietrobelli

Paediatric Endocrinologist, who worked closely with Professor Heymsfield at the New York Obesity Research Centre, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, USA A specialist in paediatric obesity, Prof Angelo Pietrobelli is Senior Staff Physician at the paediatric unit, Verona University Medical School, Italy. His research focuses on paediatric body composition as well as the prevention and treatment of paediatric obesity.


Professor Jean-Michel Oppert

Professor of Nutrition at University Pierre-et-Marie Curie, Paris Prof Oppert is Professor of Nutrition at University Pierre-et-Marie Curie and holds a clinical position at the Department of Nutrition, Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, Paris. He serves on the board of the French Association for the Study of Obesity (AFERO), the steering committee of the International Association for the Study of Obesity physical activity task force, the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group and the International Society for Behaviour in Nutrition and Physical Activity.


Professor Kurt Widhalm

Recently Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Vienna, Austria Professor Widhalm is one of the pioneers in the field of childhood obesity and is an international expert on blood lipids and childhood obesity. Professor Widhalm is also former President of the European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG).
